The Hunger Games and Isaac

We are expecting a large TS or Hurricane, named Isaac, on Monday and Tuesday. Last week we were inundated with rain, from a Tropical low that was way over by Mexico. We are saturated, and any amount of rain is going to cause flooding. So, we are preparing for possible flooding, and the probability is good we will lose power at least for a while. It is moving a little bit more to the west, but it is still so far away, that you really have to pay close attention.

On Friday, my husband and I, watched The Hunger Games. This is not a movie I enjoyed, nor will I watch or read anything more about it. I have no idea what redeemable qualities anyone thinks a teenager would get from this movie. After ten minutes I was ill, and wanted to turn it off. I think if you are an adult and you enjoy this kind of stuff, awesome, but my kids won't read it or see it anytime soon. I really really disliked this storyline. I won't give away too much, but lets just say it was barbaric like dog fighting. Since I don't promote dog fighting, neither will I promote The Hunger Games. I really can't believe how many people actually loved and enjoyed this set of books.

Free Speech And Dog Fighting

I am a firm believer in free speech. It is one of the great things about this country. However, I have to say the Supreme Court did not make any sense to me yesterday, when they ruled that taping, and distributing dog fighting matches was considered free speech, and therefore protected under the Constitution.

I am sorry but the last time I checked dog fighting is illegal in all 50 states. If you are taping the event, and then distributing it for profit, or pleasure that would make you an accessory, or accessory after the fact, according to our own laws. An accessory either encourages an illegal act, has knowledge of an illegal act, or tries to cover up an illegal act. Would that not include taping dog fighting acts then either selling those tapes, or in any way sharing them with others? I thought the Supreme Court was supposed to interpret the law. This makes absolutely no sense to me, and why would they want to protect something so disgusting. Can you tape a rape, murder, or child molestation, and distribute as free speech, and be protected from the law? Of course not, that would make you an accessory to the crime, punishable under the law. This was a mistake, I think, on the part of the Supreme Court of this great country.
