Petition To Change Florida Virtual Homeschool Laws

Before I get to the topic, I must say I was stunned last night when Adam was in the bottom two, on American Idol. I just could not believe it. There I got that off my chest, now on to other things.

Florida offers children a Virtual Homeschool option. Many parents choose this option, as it is free, and you do not have to worry about planning a curriculum. The child must be in at least fifth grade, though they are adding younger grades, for the next school year, and attend public school for at least one year. That last sentence is where the problem arises. Why should a parent, who wants to homeschool their child be required to enroll them in public school for one year, only to pull them out a year later. We can make all kinds of assumptions as to why that rule is there, but that is another topic. There is a petitition going around to amend this law. Governor Charlie Crist has signed the petition, as have I. I do not use the Virtual Homeschool option, but that does not mean I won't in the future. I also feel it is unfair, and a means to control homeschoolers, and should be removed. If you would like to show your support, and sign the petition you can go here. Wow Adam Lambert and Danny Gokey

If you missed American Idol last night, you missed a good one. I think they all did excellent, but Adam, and Danny definitely stole the show. Danny finally showed some more of his abilities, especially in the performance department. Allison still appears to be uncomfortable with her own personality, but she sang awesome. How did your favorites do last night?

April 29th Bloggers Unite For Hunger

This is something that is close to my heart, because I really do not see any reason for anyone to be starving, and hungry. Heifer International, is using the month of April to help people learn to plant, grow, and harvest their own food. They supply the seeds, and the knowledge to get this done. I can not think of a more worth cause, then helping to rid the world of hunger.

April 29th Bloggers Unite for Hunger and Hope. Just by blogging about this topic, you can help feed a hungry person. Knowledge is power, and the more we know, the more we can help. Every day children are starving, all around the world. Some have no clean water to drink, and I have even read stories of them making mud cakes that they sell, and eat. Here are some of the startling facts I have learned.

WHO says 1/3 of children are underfed, and another 1/3 are starving. Think about that, that is a lot of children.

More than 500 million people live in, absolute poverty. Not they can not afford cable, or a cell phone, but absolute poverty some with no electricity, running water, or food to eat.

In the US 46% of African American children, and 49% of Latino children are considered chronically hungry.

No matter what your personal feelings are as to why hunger still exists in this world, it should not be. With all the money, and wealth so many countries have, why do children still suffer, and die. Why do we make it a personal, or political issue, instead of a humanity issue? Would you like to help, here are some ways you can.

Common Birds, Trees, and Flowers Native To Florida

Tomorrows Science class will be covering common birds, trees, and flowers native to Florida. DJ has already taken out several books, from our local library. He loves to read to his sister, and learn about nature. He teaches her all kinds of neat facts. He is actually a better Science teacher than me lol. I just supply the tools, and he sucks it up like a sponge. I found a very cool website sponsored by the University of Florida all about native plants, and animals. You can view it here. I also added some very nice video clips on the Everglades, the area known as the Nature Coast, and birds of Florida. I hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
