Halloween Week 100 DIY Costume Ideas

It is Halloween week, already.  If you are creative, short on cash, or just like to make your own costume, check out the video.  She has some really cute and clever ideas.  Modify for the age of your child.  Below the video find an assortment of masks to purchase.  It is a great deal.  Store them away for Halloween's to come.  What is your kiddo going to be for Halloween?  Mine has moved away from cute and is into scary.  So she is a Zombie Bride or something of that nature. All week I will be sharing Halloween themed activities, and ideas.  We get our pumpkins tomorrow and have some really cute ideas for carving this year.

Whimsy Wednesday: Halloween Minute to Win It Games

We are kind of big game fans in this house.  Well, at least 3 out of 4 of us are, lol.  When we were still in 4H each week the kids would play a new Minute to Win It game as a sort of Ice Breaker.  The kids really loved these games and it really helped them learn teamwork and getting to know each other.  Click the link to go to the source of the games, let me know which ones you tried and if you loved them or not.  The image is from the source link.

Painting and Drawing Penguins

Today was the kids first day back to Art class, with me. I continued to paint over the last couple of months, but they wanted a break. Caitlin picked the penguin, as her bird of choice. Caitlin and DJ opted to draw their penguins, and I painted mine onto a gift bag. You can see the results below. It was finally nice enough outside, to restart our Run Club as well. The kids are at the end of their mileage sheet, and are ready for the 5 Points of Life Kid's Marathon on February 15th. Tomorrow is a regular full day of school, with no outside activities. Tuesday is the only day we have no outside activities, lol.

Wilderness Survival School

We have two weeks of Summer Vacation left. Public school begins school tomorrow, but we don't start back until the day after Labor Day. Since I am constantly searching for new and interesting websites, that will help us achieve our goals, I found Wilderness Survival School. I was not technically looking for that subject, but was searching for Earth Kids stuff. This Wilderness Survival School website is awesome! You can sign up for a free ecourse, which of course I did. The kids will be doing the first ecourse together, as a part of their Science school work. If your kids love nature, or you just want to get them involved in nature more, then check out Wilderness Survival School.

Some Changes and Upcycled Fairy or Doll Houses

OK, so I have already made some changes to our next school year, for DJ.  After our evaluations, and some info provided to me, I have done some soul searching and have decided that FLVS is no longer going to work for us.  At least not at this time.  We had a teacher change, for Math, that was just not working, and rather waste more time on the phone complaining and trying to get it fixed, I decided to just let it go.  DJ completed more than a full year of Math curriculum for 7th grade, so this is not an issue for him.  I won't go into great detail, but I have settled the issue myself.  I will be going back to sharing our daily activities, once school starts again.  I got away from it last year, mostly because FLVS took up so much of DJ's day on the computer.

I love Pinterest!  If you don't have it, you should.  It is a great place to store information for later use.  Anyway I am into reusing and upcycling as much as possible.  I found these cute Fairy Houses, made out of plastic jugs.  You know, the ones that never break down.  Anyway I can't share the image, because it isn't mine, but you can go to the website and see how they are made.  It is so easy.  I showed them to Caitlin and she thought they would make great Littlest Pet Shop houses and other small dolls.  I thought they would make great Fairy Houses for in the garden, or even Bird Houses.  So, yes we will be making some of these.  Just not sure when, lol!  Check them out, you will love them.  If you want to follow me on Pinterest, just click that link.

American Idol Finale, Tragedy In A Small Town

Last night was the Season 8 American Idol finale. Each contestant sang three songs, I think Adam clearly won, but Kris has improved so much you never know. Adam's second song was a blues type song, that was amazing. I can not find a clip on it, but if you did not see it, you should. I did not like the song written by Kiara, the judge, much at all.

Last night was a major tragedy, here in our small town. My daughter somehow lost her blanket, that she has had since she was born. She sleeps with it every night, and used to drag it around everywhere. Well it has disappeared, and I mean literally. We searched everywhere, even in cupboards, and dressers, every nook, and cranny. It was a long night of crying, sobbing, and even screaming. Finally we convinced her it was after all just a blanket, she was not convinced until everyone else gave up something too. My husband his pillow, a teddy bear, and my comforter, then she finally fell asleep. Attachment to objects is great, don't you think?

Happy Mothers Day, Mother Of The Year

Happy Mothers Day, to all you moms in the blogosphere. My husband made me this cute video, click the link to watch it. It is a mock news cast naming me Mother of the Year. My kids thought that was so cool, and real. I do not know where he got the idea to do this, but it was pretty funny.
Since I have two kids, I want to share some of my most favorite pictures. I delete a lot of them, after they have been printed, but these are some of the best ones I have on my computer. Have a great day, everyone. Be sure to relax, and get pampered.

My Kids Are Crazy, and Only One Day Left For Contest

I think my kids have lost their marbles. On Thursday, we scrubbed, and cleaned to get the pool all sparkly clean. Not an easy task, I might add. On Saturday they begged my husband to let them go swimming, and he let them. My daughter had teeth chattering, but she did not want to get out. My husband got in too, and I think they all need to see a shrink. While it has been warm, that water, which we just put in, is freezing. Not me, no way, not until about May.

At the top of this blog, you will see a contest for a set of Sylvan workbooks. Tomorrow is the very last day you can enter, with the winner being drawn on the 31st. I have four entries so far. It is easy to enter, and easy to win. This contest is sponsored by Sylvan Learning Center, do not miss out on these awesome 4th grade workbooks.

There is no school tomorrow, so I have no lesson plan to post. Have a great Sunday, everyone.

Second Hand Smoke Lesson Plan

Tomorrow for Health we will be focusing on second hand smoke, and not smoking at all. We all know peer pressure, and what they see adults do has a tremendous effect on choices they make in their lives. Education can teach them why they should not smoke, and the effects smoke has on them, and others around them.

Here is the lesson as outlined in our book:

Secondhand smoke is just as harmful to you as firsthand smoke. Secondhand smoke occurs, when you inhale another person's cigarette smoke, that is floating in the air around you. Sometimes secondhand smoke is hard to avoid. Many public places such as malls, restaurants, and airplanes have banned smoking as well as other public places. However, you may still find yourself in places where people smoke, like in your home, a friends home, or car. In the space on your paper, draw a billboard to convince lawmakers to ban smoking in all public places. You can use pictures, words, and anything else to make your point.

Whether or not you agree with this issue is not the point of this topic. I believe secondhand smoke is dangerous, and that is what I teach my children. If you do not believe that, then you can teach your kids as you see fit. Below is a short Superman clip for young kids to see that smoking is not cool.

Lesson Plans for 2/26/09:

Math: Pictographs, multiplication, division

All Roads Lead Home, Family Movie Night

We have movie night, at least every other week. My children are young, 8, and 4 so we have to find movies that are appropriate for those ages. I just saw a preview for a movie, that really touched my heart. It is called All Roads Lead Home, see the trailer here It is rated PG, so it is appropriate for a variety of ages.

The movie itself, is about a young girl, and her mom passes away. She goes to live with her Grandfather, for an attitude adjustment. It is touching, and lovely with a perfect message to young people. You can not deny, or run away from your past. You must deal with it, and then go on. I will be watching for this movie to come out on DVD, it may already have. I would love for my family, to see this whole movie.

What do you do on family movie night, besides obviously watch a movie? We have what we call snack dinner, or snack lunch. You get to eat whatever you want. Usually this consists of popcorn, chips, cookies, juice, pretzels, even yogurt or ice cream, crackers and cheese, whatever each person decides they would like to have for their movie night meal.

Don't forget to check out the trailer for All Roads Lead Home All Roads Lead Home The Movie and see if you would like this movie to be your next family night movie.
