Like My Facebook Page and I Will Give Something Away

When my Facebook fan page hits 300 likes I will start a give away.  One lucky winner will get to choose an item from my new, shiny Ecrater store.  I am still adding items to it, but have over 40 items listed there.  To like my page, just click the highlighted link, then like the page.  Obviously you have to be on Facebook to like my page.  Come on now, don't dilly dally the sooner the better.  Also, starting on Black Friday, I will be doing 25 Days of Christmas, with a new deal every day.  You won't want to miss it.

NIV Living Bible and End of First Quarter Homeschool

Do you like to win things? I love to win things, though it does not happen very often. I won this beautiful NIV Kid's Living Bible, on Zonderkidz on Facebook. As a side note, I did not win because I agreed to do a blog post. After I learned I won, I offered to share the Bible here on my blog. You can visit their Facebook page, and win something too. They are giving away books very often. This will actually be a gift for my 9 yr old for Christmas. It is too young for my 13 yr old, so I am still hunting for a beautiful boy's Bible. For many years, I didn't teach from a Biblical perspective, and I still don't as far as basic subjects. But we joined a local church this past year, that has a wonderful children's program, and they have now shown more interest, so we have added Bible lessons to our school work. We have been using CK12.com for Math and Science online textbook. Today, he used Quizlet for the first time, to review and test himself. This is a website that is great to study with and use for test practice.

We are in our tenth week of school, end of the first quarter, and we are testing all week. Caitlin is basically just doing Math and Writing challenges, but DJ is testing all week on material he has learned in the first nine weeks. Below are the websites I am using to test him. I also made a writing and special History final exam. I will share those later.

Yay A Snow Day!!!

Yay the kids woke up to a free day off from school due to snow! LOL no it didn't actually snow here, but GA did get hammered a couple of days ago, only an hour and a half away from us. I actually didn't make any lesson plans for today assuming I was going to need it for a conference call with my weekend job. I was right, and the kids got a free day off from school. They did have to catch up on chores including dusting, room cleaning, and the sink in their bathroom got scrubbed. It has been a rather informal week of schooling this week.

So where do you find your local school weather closings. I have found two very nice resources for such information. Cancellation.com just type in your school and other info needed and it will give you the updated information. If you are a text fanatic you can text 242242 with your school name and address with the question school closing, and they will text you back the info you request. It is a free text if you have unlimited text in your cell phone plan.

It is freezing here in FL, so I can't imagine what it is back home in the North. Stay warm and stay safe.

Fun Friday The Letter V: Vacation, Virtual Vegetables, Virtual Fish

Hey, it is Fun Friday again, at our Blogging For Fun group. This week we are working on the letter V. V is for vacation. Next week is vacation time here at Melissa's Homeschool. My sister, and brother in law are coming from NC, and the weather looks beautiful. I do have a lot to get done in this week, but it will still be relaxing, and less hectic than normal.

V is also for Virtual Vegetable farms, and Virtual fish. What am I talking about? Well Fishville, and Farmville of course. If you are like me, and live under a rock, you may have never heard of these. They are virtual games on Facebook. I swore when I got talked into signing up for Facebook that there would be no games at all. Yeah right! Friends kept sending gifts for these games, so I eventually gave in. Now the kids and I are hooked. Ha ha get it? Now we don't sit here all day playing games. I don't have the patience for that. My kids do it with me, through my account. I am not one of them nice, cool parents who let their ten year olds have their own Facebook account. If you are on Facebook, and you would love to be my neighbor in Fishville, or Farmville, click my Facebook picture in the left hand side of this blog. You will have to ask permission to be my friend, I know like I said I am not cool at all. I will then add you as a friend, and we can invite each other to be neighbors. Having neighbors is great. They don't let their pets go on your yard, they are quiet, and even help you out. It is the ultimate neighbor. So go on now, and get your cool on, and invite me to be your friend. Go on snap to it! The videos below help explain how to play the games. I of course being the coolest, and most amazing virtual neighbor will be more than happy to help you, should you need it.
