Political Rant Number 1: Homeschool Rights

I do not normally rant, or even care much, what people think or say about the fact that I homeschool my children.  Either why or how, as a matter of fact.  I do, however, answer questions from those who are curious or truly interested in what we do.  I do not entertain the rude people, or those who ridicule or are just nosy.  I do not extend my opinions to those who choose to send their child to public school, and I expect the same respect in return.

So, what am I all hot and bothered about?  Some political figure in Ohio, you can Google her name if you want, tried to get a bill passed that would say that anyone who wanted to homeschool their child, in Ohio, had to have Social Services OK it first.  Are you kidding me?  As if that was not bad enough, then I made the mistake of reading comments made by ignorant people who have no knowledge of anything apparently, on how this should be because all those wacky homeschoolers just abuse their kids, thump their Bibles, and teach that the Earth is only 6,000 years old.  And those are just the ones I took the time to bother and read.  There were more.

I know, I know homeschoolers pull their kids out of public school so we can hide them in a closet, make them work hard labor in the fields, abuse them with hot irons, starvation and refusal of medical care.  Really, why would we not have to be investigated just because we want to educate our children in the way we see fit?  Come on, educate yourself, before you get on your high horse of stupidity.  It is a beautiful horse and you ride it so well.

Child abuse is an all encompassing epidemic.  It effects all races, religions, and even educated well off people abuse their children. Homeschooling is a RIGHT.  You, nor the Government has the  RIGHT to try and take that away from anyone.  Once you start to trounce the rights of one group of people, be very careful for your precious rights may get trounced on too.

If someone is suspected of child abuse, fine take the proper steps to eradicate it, but keep your hands off homeschool rights.  You might find we don't like having our rights trounced on.

Who Likes To Dust?

Well Caitlin doesn't feel good today, and does not want to do school. As punishment I am making her dust. Got your attention? I am just kidding, obviously. That is a slam aimed at someone on another forum that I frequent, who again insinuates that home schoolers somehow neglect, abuse, or other wise hide their children from society. When will people realize we home school because we enjoy being with our children, and teaching them, not so we can abuse them. Gosh!!!

Caitlin really is not feeling well today. Lessons will be made up over the weekend. Of course DJ immediately demands to have the day off too, he would be too distracted by her constant nose blowing. Back to my reference to dusting. Do you like to dust? I hate to dust. My children really do like to dust. Maybe I should have them seen by a shrink LOL. I read recently in a magazine, I would tell you which one, but my memory is not functioning properly, that if you have lots of indoor green plants the leaves actually absorb the dust, and you will not have to dust as often. Why has no one ever told me this before. Here I am putting all my green plants outside, totally neglecting them of their daily dose of my dust. The nerve of me. It also said you will get less colds, as well. So now I have to either buy more nice green plants, are start digging up the ones I have outside. I think these types of things should be shared more often. What do you think?

Well I guess that is all the fun you get to have at my blog today. Tomorrow is test day, reading, and writing for DJ. Have a great, dust free day!

More Ignorance Towards Homeschoolers

Before I go into my big speech, please view the clip for yourself. It is from 11/17/08. and the ladies on The View, are discussing education options for the Obama children. It starts with a commercial before it actually goes to the clip. Go here to view it http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=6271001

Did you see it? Did you see where the host Joy, called homeschool children demented, and they are afraid of other children. Now let me first say I know she was trying to be humorous, however I still find it insulting, and even slanderous. For someone on national TV, to say that all homeschool children are demented, and isolated is absurd. Why is it assumed that all homeschoolers are sticking their kids in the closet, and shutting them off from the outside world? People choose to homeschool for a lot of reasons, and maybe some of them are isolated, but the majority I know of are very well rounded, sociable children. I find it even more insulting, considering she is an actress, and a lot of young actors are homeschooled, due to their crazy work schedules.

I for one intend to construct a letter, and send it off to ABC, insisting on an apology. If you are offended, or just think it is unfair for a group to be stereotyped against, you too can make your voice heard. Go here http://abc.go.com/daytime/theview/ask
