Contest Win A 1st Grade Sylvan Language Arts Workbook

First of all let me apologize to those of you who I told this would start a few days ago. My senility got the better of me this week. I had a guest blogger on Monday, and completely forgot to post the contest. This contest runs from 11/05/09 to 12/05/09, and is for a Sylvan 1st grade Language Arts workbook. This particular workbook retails for 18.99 on the Sylvan website, so it is a great offer. You get a three subject in one workbook. You get reading, vocabulary, and spelling, all in one book. So what do I think of this workbook? Well I will tell you. In the Spring, Sylvan contacted me for the first time, with a fourth grade set of workbooks to give to one of my readers, as well as a set for me. DJ is using the fourth grade set right now, and I love it. It is not a complete language arts curriculum, I do use supplemental material. However, the spelling, and vocabulary words have been a wonderful challenge for him. They are quite extensive for his age group. I also like the writing prompts at the back of the work book. So that gets me to the 1st grade book. Sylvan again contacted me, and asked me if I would be interested in sponsoring another give away. Of course I said yes. This time I picked the 1st grade Language Arts book, which Caitlin will use next year. Now this one I can say is 300 pages long, and appears to be a complete Language Arts curriculum, for first graders. It is also awesome for the child who may be behind a little bit, needs to catch up, or wants to get ahead of their class mates. There are various activities, that teach reading skills, spelling, and vocabulary.

Now how do you win this awesome workbook?
1- You must have a child that needs the workbook. It can be your own child, a grandchild, or niece, nephew. Please do not enter, if you do not personally have a child that needs it.

2- You must live in the US, with a US mailing address.

3- You must contact me via email, at darien04@gmail.com and tell me the child's name, mailing address, and what they will be using it for.

4- If you have a blog, I would much appreciate you posting the contest on your blog. You do not have to be a blogger to enter, but if you do have a blog, this would be very much appreciated.

That is it, pretty easy, and self explanatory. This will be placed at the top of all my blogs until December 5th, at 8 AM. All names will be put in a hat, and one of my children will draw the winner out.

Lets Have Some Fun With Color

How about something fun for a change. I am usually thinking of serious, thought provoking subjects, which explains my results shown below. Anyway take the color test, just short ten questions, and see what color you are. Please come back and post your results, or better yet share them on your blog. As you can see I am blue, and I must say I am very drawn to anything blue. I find the description to be very accurate of my personality. I can not wait to see what color you are.

Speaking of colors, and since I have different readers on each of my blogs, how about pink. Do you love the color pink? Then you simply must go to my jewelry blog, and enter to win a pink tourmaline ring. Time is running out, it ends August 8th, and I already have 9 contestants. Go here to enter, be sure to read the rules.

I Need A Vacation!

Yes, I need a vacation, and Kissimmee is giving away 3 free vacations to Kissimmee Florida.
I for one, will be entering this contest for sure.

What can you do in Kissimmee? There is so much to do, and not all of it costs money. You can check out the historic downtown area of Kissimmee, St. Cloud, and Celebration. Have a lovely dinner for two after, and shop their lovely boutiques. There are nature trails, you can hike, and see the splendid habitats that make Florida so desirable. Plus you might just see a Bald Eagle. Did you know that the Kissimmee area has the larged American Bald Eagle population, in the lower 48. I did not, that is so exciting. You can take an airboat ride, and maybe see an alligatior, like the people pictured. I personally would not be excited to be that close to an alligator, but my kids would get a kick out of it.

I personally would want to go to Aquatica Seaworlds Water Park. You get to see the animals, like at Seaworld, plus enjoy the water park to beat the heat. There is a video you can watch on their site, telling about all the lings you can do while you are there. They have Cabana's you can rent for the day, for a really cool birthday party, anniversary, or other special event. They do have height restrictions for their rides, so be sure to check them out before you decide to visit this park.

Do not forget to enter the contest to win a 3 day/2night getaway for yourself. The April contest has already been done, but there will be two more drawings on May 1st, and June 1st, so there is still plenty of time.

Look Mom I Am Holding A Tiger!

I would like to update everyone on the contest for the Sylvan books. There is still 7 days to enter, rules are posted at the top of this blog. It is simple to enter, and I have three entries so far. On my jewelry blog you can win a brand new Gemstones of the World book. There are 8 days left in that contest, so be sure to check it out. Details are at the top of that blog, as well. My humor blog, I have transferred over to Melissas Garage Sale, though it still has the name melissashumor. I will be listing all items, that we would normally sell at a garage sale. Check it out at http://www.melissashumor.blogspot.com

This cute picture was taken yesterday, when we visited a very small local traveling zoo. While they travel all over, they are local to this area. They were offering pictures with a baby tiger cub. I was not real sure, seeing how spunky, and growling it was. But the keeper assured me it was safe, and you see the results. My kids were thrilled, and would not mind getting a picture with the huge python they had. I had to say no to that one. It was a good time, and we took a walk through the flea market after. Which is what gave me the idea for Melissas Garage Sale.

And The Winner Of The October Contest Is:

The winner of the 10 dollars cash, and free 90 day text link, is Cy. I used random.org and the number chosen was 37, that was the number assigned to Cy. I had 39 total entries, so it took me a bit of time to give a number to each entry, before them into their integrer. It was fast, and easy after that. Thank you to all who entered. I will be contacting Cy, to let her know of her winning.

I am working on the November contest now. I know what the prize is, just working out the details. It will probably be between both blogs, with the one prize. Due to the expense of the prize, and the cost to ship it, I am combining them together. So stay tuned for that.

Lesson Plans for 10/30/08:

Writing: Write a spooky Halloween poem
Reading: Chapter 1 of Pirates Past Noon
Health: Nutrition
Math: Add 3 numbers, multiplication, division

Terrific Thursdays, My Favorite Blogs

Starting today, and every Thursday, I will be posting about one of my favorite blogs. Everyday I visit blogs, and some of them are great. These sites may, or may not be related to homeschooling, but several different topics. Today I am going to start with work at home mom revolution. I love this blog, because as a stay at home mom, I am always looking for work from home opps. She has tons of work at home opps, alot are freelancing or writing jobs. These are great for anyone who wants to make a little extra money, while staying home with your kids. I have not found any that, I am completely qualified for, but she is always adding new jobs, and tons and tons of info. If you have not checked out her blog yet go to http://workathomemomrevolution.blogspot.com/ and see if there is a job available for you. This is one of my favorite blogs, and I check it often, even if I forget to drop my card, sorry.

Tomorrow is my sons Homeschool Evaluation, our first, and I have no idea how long it takes. Then my husband has an online webinar, for his work at home job. Yes even my husband, has a work at home job, along with his full time job. It allows us to cover some of the expense of our health insurance, since they have cut his overtime. Anyway, I may not be able to drops, comments, or new posts til late Fri, or not even until Sat or Sun, depending on TS Fay, and my weekend job.

Please check out my contest at my other blog, http://www.melissasjewelryandgemstoneblog.blogspot.com You can win a SS blue topaz ring, details can be found in the archives. All you have to do is give me a recipe for a cake that a dog will love.
