Mixing Colors and Copernicus

Today is Science here at Melissa's Homeschool. DJ will be doing more space activities beginning with learning about Copernicus. He has two reading assignments, the video below, and then review questions. Caitlin and DJ both will be doing an experiment about mixing colors. We actually will be doing this tomorrow when we continue learning about Canada, and we get to make an ice sculpture with colors we mix and match. Should be fun, and I will get pictures before it melts. If you have a youngster learning about farm animals, and want something fun to teach it. Have your child draw a farm with all the animals that can be found on a farm. Here in Florida public school kids have no school due to election day. Don't forget to vote!

The Father Of Genetics: Mendel

Tomorrow for Science class we are up to our third week, out of four, of the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle curriculum. DJ will also be doing a piece on Gregor Mendel the Father of Genetics. This will be his first time going into detail about genetics. The first video below is suited towards younger learners, while the second video is more advanced. I messed up our weather tracking, so I will be restarting it with just the temp and pressure in the AM, then the temp and pressure in the PM. The jist of the experiment is supposed to show that as the pressure rises the temp goes down.

How To Make A Solar Oven With Pringles Cans

If you ever need an oven in a pinch, you can make your own solar oven. Of course using a Pringles Can won't get you a very big oven, but you can always make bigger ones using the same concepts they teach you. I think this is really cool, and is a Science project for next year. You will be seeing a lot of these as I go through the experiment book for next year, and make lists to be sure we have everything we need. Give it a try.

Tomorrow is Memorial Day, and there is no school. Half day lessons will resume on Tues-Fri, for DJ only for tidbit things that need to be finished. Caitlin has completed her lessons.
