A New Adventure for Me

Some of you, who visit frequently probably remember I have been making jewelry, painting etc, and selling on Ebay, and Etsy for years.  I recently shut down my Etsy shop completely, just not worth the time.  I still have Ebay active, but am currently not actively selling there.  I am starting a new adventure.  I have been thinking this whole year about options for the future.  I only have one more child to get through high school, and then I will need to have something to do.  As I get older, the prospect of floor nursing, esp full time, seems daunting.  Going back for my RN, is way too much debt, with a little more than 10 years to work.  So, after much research I have decided to go into Health Coaching.  If you would like to see my new Health Buddy blog, on Wordpress, please feel free to visit  https://healthbuddydotblog.wordpress.com/  Maybe you need a Health Buddy.

I Am On A Mission.... Because I Am Irritated

I renewed my Florida nursing license this morning, and I actually considered not doing it. I have been a nurse for 23 years, this year. Why do you think I was not going to renew it? Because I am irritated with an incident that occured this weekend at my job. It sort of directly involved me, but more so one of my coworkers. She ended up being scolded for something she was not comfortable doing, and did not feel properly trained and or unable to do due to the laws of Florida. Now I went home before I knew what the outcome was, but it has been bothering me since Saturday. So I am on a mission to read the entire Nurse Practice Act for the state of Florida, and any other document to find the info I need to arm myself should the incident occur again. My employer is fully aware, that I will not put my license in jeapordy for their own benefit. This has caused me to be in hot water with them in the past. I am not the type to be bullied, and I have no intentions of starting now. I will guard myself with the info I need to protect myself, as I believe in the end knowledge is power. I have to renew my NY nursing license as well, within the next 30 days. On a plus note the new local hospital finally got their funding, after four years, and construction will soon begin. I can not wait, hospital nursing is my true love, and I hope to return to it soon.

The Perfect Job

DJ had a writing assignment this week, that asked him to pick the perfect job, and write about it. Of course he picked race car driver, and wrote a big long story about why this would be the perfect job. Obviously for me, his mother, I would not agree, but to an 8 yr old it is perfect. Anyway, it got me thinking about my career, and how I came to choose it. I have been a nurse for 21 years, and mostly chose that profession, because my mother told me not to. I was a stubborn child, and really hated being told what to do. So I went to nursing school out of spite, LOL. Nursing has been good to me. When I worked in the hospitals, I learned so much. Because I was brave, and energetic, two things that have sort of waned with aging, I was able to learn and see alot of things. Here in Florida, I work in a local nursing home. While it is not my preference, for Nursing, it is a job, and has taught me a whole lot about respect, love, generosity, and ones right to make decisions for themselves, even when we think they might not be able to. Geriatrics, is completely different, from acute care, in a lot of ways. I can say I have learned a lot, just in a different way. When I look back on my career, I am pleased as to the places it has brought me. If I were in high school today, and choosing a career, would I choose Nursing? I dont know, if I would. Nursing is not today, what it was 21 yrs ago. The pay is decent, as far as pay goes, but working conditions are not always optimal. I think maybe my perfect job, would have been a Lawyer. I love a good argument, and I never play to lose. I think my aggressive, relentless personality, would make me perfect for the court room, plus I find the law fascinating, as well as human behavior. So what would be your perfect job, if you could choose the perfect job, and why?
