My goodness I have quite a few things I want to share with you today. Have you ever wondered why the states have the very interesting shapes that they have? Now you can find out, by viewing the video below, it is long I am warning you. History channel is also having an episode covering this tonight, at 8PM, and again at 1AM. Top 2 Posts For 2009, Snowman Cake

Well it is the end of our winter break, so I have to post a whole bunch of stuff today LOL. The picture is DJ with the snowman cake, I made for our play group Xmas party. Caitlin refused to have her picture with the snowman, much like she refused to take a picture with Santa. I am getting pretty good at this cake making thing now, and Caitlin has already said she wants Spongebob for her birthday in May. I can not bake cookies, however, for nothing. I don't know why that is, but it is true.

So what two posts in 2009, got the most comments for this blog. There were a whole bunch that had 11 comments, but the top two had 13, and 12 comments. They were Family Movie Day, Marley and Me, with 13 comments, and Say Hello to my Little Biscuit, with 12 comments. If you really want to read them again, just click the highlighted title.

Tomorrow I will begin posting our lesson plans for each day, again. Plus the homeschool of the day freebie. You do not have to homeschool for these to be helpful, and can be used by almost anyone. You do have to sign up at their blog, if you would like them sent to you, or you could just check here, and see if I remembered to post them. Today's topic is Supermom's Simple Guide to Healthier Eating for Beginners and Beyond. Click the highlighted link to get it for free. If you would like to sign up to get the freebies to your email inbox, go here.

Nothing Exciting Today!

I am sorry to say I have nothing exciting going on in my life today. Tomorrow is test day, read chapters 7 and 8, of Little House on the Prairie with summary, writing Letter G. That is pretty much it. So I guess you will have to look at this cute picture of my daughter riding a pony at the circus. I am now putting pictures on my blogs, because I had an awful virus that wiped out almost my whole hard drive. I lost all my pictures, I really should print them more than once a year. Anyway if I put them on my blogs, and my computer goes down, I still have access to my pictures. Clever, if you ask me, but maybe not. I am still waiting for my hamster. Assistant manager called me yesterday, to say they are still in transit, and he is off the next three days. He assured me that my name was everywhere, and everyone knew I was to get a hamster as soon as they came. So, I still wait. Well that is pretty much it for today, sorry it was so unexciting. Have a great day!

Oh I almost forgot I do have the third book of The Pilgrim Stories, go here to get yours http://homeschoolfreebies.s3.amazonaws.com/PilgrimStoriesIII-LittlePilgrimsAndTheRedMen.pdf

Be sure to sign up for their newsletter. I don't keep them all, but there is something for everyone.

Happy Veterans Day, Book Two Of Pilgrim Stories

If you got book one yesterday, be sure to go to Homeschool Freebie of the Day, to get book two of Pilgrim Stories http://www.wholesomechildhood.com/Nov09/11.html Yesterday I had said I was going to use these stories, next week added into our curriculum. I am not sure if that is possible, each is almost 100 pages long. That is difficult to squeeze in, to an already made curriculum. If not I will save them for next year, for sure. Take a quick minute today, and thank some Vets. Without them, we wouldn't have the freedoms we so enjoy, and fight for.

Eat Free At Applebees, Part One Pilgrim Story

I was just thinking too bad today is not Wednesday, so I could join Anne, at Small Town Mommy, for what the hell Wednesday. I have a lot I could gripe about. Oh well if they are still here tomorrow maybe I will join in. I am sure if anyone has read the past few days, my one gripe is the stupid hamster I have been promised. It is now 11:44 AM, and the nice Walmart manager that called me yesterday, and promised I would have a hamster today, has still not called me. Not happy, am I. He has til 4 PM, and my magical fingers, shall write another letter.

Tomorrow is Veteran's Day, so be sure to thank the Vets. We will be going down to our small town parade. We have not gone in previous years, so I will let you know how that goes. Applebees is offering Vets, and active duty military, to eat free on Veteran's Day. I think this is so nice of them, that I even made a post about it.

We have no school tomorrow, but I would like to share this lovely pilgrim story. It is 3 parts, so I will be posting the other two parts, in the next few days. If you want to get all these freebies too, go to http://www.homeschoolfreebie.wholesomechildhood.com/ and sign up for the free newsletter, and they will send them to you automatically. We will be using the three part story, next week, in our lesson plans.

Freebie Of The Day, New Store Promotion, Thanksgiving Themed Unit

I have three things to discuss this morning. Tomorrow there is no school, in celebration of Veterans Day. I will be looking for a lesson on Veterans Day, and hopefully adding it to Wednesdays lessons.

Todays Homeschool Freebie of the day, is an ebook about the Pilgrims. I have downloaded this to my computer, if you are interested in it, I can send it to you. If you want to sign up for the free newsletter go to www.HomeschoolFreebieOfTheDay.com and they will send you the freebies for free, every week. Here is a summary of the ebook Pilgrim Stories I -
From Old Homes to New (PDF ebook)

This week we are featuring this absolutely delightful
three part serialization of the story of the Pilgrims - perfect
for "read aloud" and sharing with the kids over the next
couple of weeks!
In Part One, we meet the Pilgrims and learn why they
were forced to leave their homes in search of a place they could
freely worship... a journey which had many false starts,
and eventually became a hazardous journey across
the ocean in hopes of reaching the "New World".
I probably will not use this for this year, but will be saving it for next years curriculum.

This weeks free themed unit, from www.schoolexpress.com>
is for a themed unit on Thanksgiving, we will be using this the week of Thanksgiving, when there is only two days of school. If you are interested in this themed unit, I can send it to you. If you go to school express website, you can sign up for their free newsletter, and they will send you a new free themed unit, every week.

I am having a sales promotion, for my Etsy store, at both blogs. For this blog, if you purchase 25 dollars of merchandise, before shipping, you will get a free Fisher Price learning computer, for children 9 months to 3 years. There is a picture of it above. The first person to contact me through this blog, verifying their purchase will win the free learning system. Go to my Etsy store, http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6007466 and check out my inventory. This is a great way to cross two or more people, off of your Christmas list.

Homeschool Freebie, Halloween Tragedy, Fire Safey

Todays freebie of the day is an ebook titled English as she wuz wrote. You can get this free ebook, by going to http://www.HomeschoolFreebieOfTheDay.com

On Saturday, was trick or treating for many communities. In Sumster, SC a 12 year old boy was fatally shot for knocking on someones door. The man that shot the boy, his brother, and father, is an ex convict, wielding an AK-47 gun. He told the police he shot the family, because he had been robbed twice already, and had no intentions of being robbed again. There was another young man, in the home, that the police caught running away with 7,500 dollars cash. Obviously these two, were into some kind of illicit activities probably drugs, and innocent people were harmed. I am in no way in support of taking away people rights to bear arms, but I am tired of hearing of these kinds of stories of some loon with a powerful gun taking out innocent lives.

This week is Fire Safety week, here at Melissas Homeschool. We will be watching, and discussing a different short video, each day. This is the video for today. They are short, and geared at children, making them easy to understand.

Need Some Stress Relief? Comfortis For Dogs, Freebie Of The Day

Love my blog, be sure to sign up to follow my blog. It is all about the animals today. Need some stress relief, like to watch funny animals, then watch this very funny video. Be sure to watch the cat with the soap.

Do you have a dog? Then you have probably experienced fleas, ticks, and other nuisance pests on your dog. Did you know fleas, and ticks get resistant to treatments, such as Frontline? Did you know one female flea, can lay up to hundreds of eggs herself? Did you know fleas, can jump up to 100 feet away from your pet? Our dog is just over one year old, he has never had fleas, until about a week ago. We used the standard flea collar, flea bath, and Fronline, and it worked great for 1 yr. Then boom we have an infestation, yuck it was awful. We had to bomb, wash and spray everything with flea spray, shampoo all the rugs, it is almost as bad as if your child gets head lice. And still a flea lives, so what is a pet owner to do. Enter Comfortis. What is Comfortis, it is a neat and easy to give pill that you give to your pet once a month. If a flea bites your pet, it will die within 30 minutes, thereby ending the vicious cycle of them laying eggs, and on and on it goes. The pill is affordable, about 15 dollars, is beef flavored so your dog will chew it up no problem, and your local Vet should have it in stock. I can not tell you how great this medication is. It worked fast, and lasts up to 30 days. If you have a pet, you really need to know about Comfortis. By the way this is not a paid post. I am tired of talking about the economy and politics, and thought I would lighten it up a bit.

Does anyone know how I can get stray cats to stay out of my yard? Obviously I do not wish to cause them any harm, but I need something to deter them. The dog scares them away, but they come back. They urinate all over, including my front porch, and of course it stinks. They go on my roof, under the house, and are basically just a menace. They are strays, and animal control refuses to come get them. So how do I keep them out of my yard, and no a fence doesnt work, they just climb it. Any advice, is greatly appreciated.

Watching TS Fay, Free Transportation Unit, Homeschool Freebie of The Day

Todays post, is chock full of stuff. First we are continuing to track TS Fay. It has grown to 60 miles and hour winds, and is just entering warm waters off of Cuba. They Keys are being evacuated, and the track has once again shifted just a hair to the East. Yesterday, they said south Florida, would most likely avoid a direct hit, now that has changed yet again. Watches are all the way up to Tampa, and it is predicted to become at least a category 1 hurricane, which is a minimal hurricane. Tornadoes would be the biggest threat for us, if it makes landfall south of Tampa.

This weeks School Express newsletter contains a free themed unit on Transportation. Since the history of transportation, is a part of our third grade curriculum, this is one I was glad to see. If you would like to receive the school express free newsletter, go to http://www.schoolexpress.com and sign up. It is completely free, and every Sunday, they will send a new themed unit.

This week at homeschool freebie of the day, the following free subjects will be available.
Monday- If I could do it again, this is a free advice article from people who have homeschooled for many years.

Tuesday- Childhood Stories of George Washington &
Abraham Lincoln", great read-alouds by Anne Tatum

Wednesday- Bible Scavenger Hunt"
Challenge your kids in this Bible-based scavenger hunt
and exploration from Values-Driven Family

Thursday- Quilted Hearts Doll Quilt Project"
A wonderful learning project for young hands eager to learn
to sew and quilt, from Seasons at Home magazine

Friday- Fun Audio Adventures Sampler
